MONDAY MIXTAPE: LOKIER
"Maestros De Compuerta"
‘Picture the weirdest, sketchiest dive bar you can imagine. A guttersnipe hole-in-the-wall hidden at the end of an unlit alley. Populate it with freaks, junkies, perverts, hustlers and at least one shambling ghoul. Ply this crowd of villains and losers with cheap shots of high strength gut-rot. Watch them dance. What are they dancing to? Our money is that it'd be this mix from Lokier.’, Ran$om Note once wrote about Lokier. This quote saves me some minutes to describe her sound, plus: I probably wouldn’t come up with a better, more fitting description of her freaky slo-mo synth vibes of her productions and mixes.
I first got her on my radar after the Zombies In Miami remix of her track „Escape“ came out, which completely blew me away last year - only to find out that the whole EP on ViAAL is a must have and her mixes are at least on the same level of exceptionalism. Originally from Mexico City, Yoan Rodríguez Lokier got into the DJ game the hard way, referring on her stories about her first gigs: ‘...I started djing when I was 21 years old at massive clandestine parties, they were dark, scary & illegal. On one of my first performances, as I got on stage, the DJ that played before me was picking up her things and she said: "someone just threw a bottle at my head - good luck". There was no room for mistakes at those parties and they would usually be cut short by the police. I told myself I would make no mistakes, since I didn't want to go home with a black eye. The pressure was too much and I was always very scared. DJs kept coming off-stage with blood on their heads... Months later I got offered to play at small bars in nice areas and that’s when I decided that djing was not so bad and that you can actually have fun.’
She just made the move to Barcelona, maybe because of a more accomodating scene and she might be turning your fave dancefloor into above mentioned scene.
Don’t miss her new EP that hits the streets today on HAKT (Have A Killer Time) and check her FB for upcoming dates and projects. Now close your window curtains, get some shots of high strength gut-rot and enjoy her Monday Mixtape.
